President Obama will bestow an eclectic group of Americans with the Medal of Freedom today. That’s the highest civilian honor in the United States.
Folk legend Bob Dylan, author Toni Morrison, basketball coach Pat Summitt, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, astronaut John Glenn and activist Dolores Huerta will be among the recipients.
“These extraordinary honorees come from different backgrounds and different walks of life, but each of them has made a lasting contribution to the life of our Nation,” the president said when he named the recipients last month. “They’ve challenged us, they’ve inspired us, and they’ve made the world a better place. I look forward to recognizing them with this award.”
The White House will live stream the ceremony beginning at 3:25 p.m. We’ve embedded the video below. (Also, here’s a full list of recipients with short biographies.)
