Hamilton discusses ‘Wotah, Spiritual Leader to Crazy Horse’ Thursday
Mark Hamilton, owner of Wild Things Gallery, will be a guest speaker on Thursday (March 12) in the Conference Center (Metigoshe Room), 1 p.m. The topic of his presentation is “Wotah, Spiritual Leader to Crazy Horse.”

This is a well-researched and interesting presentation on one of closest people to Chief Crazy Horse. Crazy Horse was one of the well-known, historical Oglala Sioux warriors at the Battle at the Little Bighorn, also known as the Battle of Greasy Grass Creek and Custer’s Last Stand, in Montana in 1876. Kibler discusses the Geneva Conventions Thursday evening
Robert Kibler, associate professor of English and humanities, will present “The Geneva Conventions, Laws of War and International Humanitarian Law,” Thursday evening (March 12) as part of the Northwest Art Center lecture series.

For the state of North Dakota, Kibler is the international humanitarian law instructor. He will talk about the Geneva Conventions, the three protocols to the conventions and other laws of war.

All NAC lectures are held in Aleshire Theater, 7 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public; refreshments are served afterward. For additional information on Northwest Art Center activities, visit its Web site at http://www.minotstateu.edu/nac/.

North Dakota Class B Boys Basketball Tournament to be held in the Dome
The Minot State University Dome will be hosting the 2009 North Dakota Class B Boys Basketball Tournament March 19-21. Eight high school basketball teams from across the state will compete for state championships. Consequently, there will be increased traffic around campus and especially around the Dome. Lot L (east of the Dome) will be utilized for parking for the tournament. During the tournament, MSU Lot L permit holders will not be ticketed for parking elsewhere. The loop around Hartnett will also be open to help with traffic flow.

Tournaments such as these bring a number of prospective students to our campus and thousands of fans from across the state. Fitness Center temporarily closing
The Fitness Center will be closing March 13-23 for the State Class B Boys Basketball Tournament. We will be moving all the equipment back into the Dome on March 23 and will be opening when it is set up and ready to be used again. I am sorry for the inconvenience. Summer work study
It is time to start thinking about work study for summer and fall terms. To be considered for summer work study, a student must:
· Have a 2009-2010 Free Application for Federal Student Aid processed by March 15 for the upcoming year.
· Have completed verification (if necessary).
· Have eligibility for work study.
· Be enrolled in at least one credit for summer term.
· Have completed a summer financial aid application (available after April 1 at the financial aid office).
· Be enrolled full time for fall.

If you have work-study students who would like to be considered for employment this summer, please visit with them regarding these criteria.

Attached is a Summer Work Study Agreement, which must be returned by April 9. 2009_Summer_work_study_program_agreement.pdf Due to time constraints in awarding summer financial aid, no requests will be considered after April 9.

NORTH DAKOTA DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES NETWORK
TO HOST HEALTH ISSUES AND DISABILITY SUMMIT

The North Dakota Developmental Disabilities Network, a collaboration between the North Dakota Center for Persons with Disabilities on Minot State University’s campus, the North Dakota State Council on Developmental Disabilities and the North Dakota Protection and Advocacy Project, is hosting a Health Issues and Disability Summit on Thursday (March 12). The summit will be held in MSU’s Conference Center (Student Center, third floor). Registration for the summit begins at 8:30 a.m.
“The NDDDN is excited to meet with citizens in North Dakota to discuss important issues in the disabilities field. This first meeting will discuss the most important factors in people’s lives — health and wellness,” said Brent Askvig, executive director of NDCPD. “Finding out what works and what doesn’t work is sure to influence our future endeavors.”
The keynote speaker for the summit will be Kari Arrayan, program director of NDCPD’s North Dakota Disability Health Project. Arrayan will give an overview on the N.D. Disability Health Project and speak specifically on the impact of disabilities in the state, including data on health disparities between people with and without disabilities. Kora Dockter, director of the N.D. Integrated Services Project, and Dawn Olson, NDCPD’s consumer liaison, will speak in the afternoon. They will highlight the changing roles of individuals, their families and health care providers as they transition from the pediatric health care system to an adult health care system
The Health Issues and Disability Summit will be the first in a series of monthly, multifaceted summits designed to:
· provide a venue where persons with health issues and disabilities can come together with professionals in the field to discuss specific issues and provide valued input on the challenges surrounding them.
· create a list of actionable tasks to provide direction to future projects for the NDDDN.
· gather insight on how members of NDDDN can feasibly address these issues.
The Health Issues and Disability Summit will conclude at approximately 3 p.m. The public is welcome to attend, and there is no fee.
