Are you new to journals publishing? Or do you need a refresher? This course covers everything from peer review to online delivery and provides attendees with a clear understanding of how all the elements in this fast-paced area fit together. This is an action-packed workshop, divided into two parts. In the morning, you’ll be given the task of starting a new journal. You’ll decide on the content, the format, and the staffing needs. You’ll get submissions, handle production, determine the budget, and plan the marketing. In the afternoon, you’ll learn how to sustain the high quality of your new journal and ensure its continued success, working on distribution, fulfillment, online hosting, pay-per-view options, and cutting-edge developments in publishing.

The journals market is becoming more competitive. New business models are being introduced and technology is creating new marketing opportunities and challenges. It’s hard to stay on top of all the changes and to know how best to apply marketing theory in this dynamic environment. This course meets these challenges and offers delegates a hands-on experience in the form of an interactive workshop. The course will use a variety of methods, including case studies, to examine some of the hot topics (such as Open Access) in the marketplace and review how to apply marketing techniques to generate sales and submissions.
