Excellence in Action Meeting

JEB BUSH HOSTS EXCELLENCE IN ACTION 2009,
A NATIONAL SUMMIT ON EDUCATION REFORM

Tallahassee, Florida – Jeb Bush, former Governor of Florida, today kicked off Excellence in Action, the Foundation for Excellence in Education’s second annual national summit on education reform, hosted in our nation’s capital. The goal of the second annual Excellence in Action summit is to arm local, state and national policymakers with the tools to transform education in America. Excellence in Action 2009 has drawn more than 300 state lawmakers, senior policymakers and education experts and reformers from across the nation.

“America is in an educational arms race and we need to wage an aggressive campaign of reform if we want any hope of winning it,” said Jeb Bush, Chairman of the Foundation for Excellence in Education. “We are pleased to convene so many passionate education reformers to strategize on improving the quality of education for every single American child.”

Excellence in Action is a comprehensive, multi-faceted program designed to ignite a movement for education reform in America. The objective of the Excellence in Action initiatives is to provide a roadmap for education reform for local, state and federal leaders across the nation, creating a one-stop-shop to arm policymakers with the tools and knowledge to achieve successful, battle-tested reform.

Excellence in Action is organized around seven Core Principles, including High Academic Standards, Objective Measurement of Student Progress, Data-Driven Accountability, Teacher Quality, School Choice, Outcome-Based Funding and Disruptive Innovation.

The summit’s marquee events include international conversations on high standards, teacher quality, parental choice and the transformational power of technology in the classroom.

Excellence in Action 2009 Featured Presentations:
Julia Gillard, Deputy Prime Minister of Australia – the first woman in history to hold that position – shares the vision for excellence in education Down Under. Peje Emilsson, education innovator and entrepreneur from Sweden, tells the revolutionary approach of “the Knowledge School” (Kunskapssklan)
