MEDAG – The Mayor’s Economic Development Advisory Group (MEDAG) will hold a Public Input Meeting, Saturday, July 11, 2009, 9 AM, in the Tom Baker Room, City County Building, 221 N 5th Street, Bismarck. Public input may be submitted during the meeting by calling 355-1312. The meeting will be broadcast live on Dakota Media Access Government Channel 2 and live web stream at www.freetv.org.

The public is invited to attend to provide input and to learn more about recommendations the committee developed that could enable more efficient and effective local economic development. The MEDAG was established by Bismarck Mayor John Warford and Mandan Mayor Tim Helbling and is supported by the City Commissions of both Bismarck and Mandan.

Taxable sales and purchases – Taxable sales and purchases for the Bismarck-Mandan MSA in the first quarter of 2009 showed a slight decrease from the same period in 2008. The breakdown for Bismarck, Mandan, Burleigh County and Morton County is as follows:

Wind energy – Wind energy development continues to be a subject of growing interest around the world as well as here in the US and North Dakota. Next week the BMDA will have a visit by a representative of the British consulate in Chicago to talk about assisting the BMDA in making contacts with European wind energy developers and manufacturers of wind energy equipment.

ICSC follow up – Richard completed his follow-up with the retailers, hoteliers and restaurant contacts that he and Mandan’s Business Development Director Ellen Huber made during the 2009 International Council of Shopping Center’s convention. Follow-up contact was made with 49 different hotel, retail, and restaurant users. Input is being solicited from a mix of users to determine which part of Mandan offers the strongest probability development as a mixed-use retail center.

Mandan Tomorrow – The Strategic Planning process in Mandan is coming to completion, as a final draft of the proposed Mandan Tomorrow strategic plan has been completed. Over the course of the summer the Steering Committee and the Technical Advisory Committee will continue working on the implementation process.
