Madison Bumgarner continued his dominant run through the playoffs, giving up just three hits and striking out five in seven innings Tuesday, as the San Francisco Giants clobbered the Kansas City Royals in Game 1 of the World Series.
With the win in Kansas City, the Giants claim home-field advantage.
A two-run home run by outfielder Hunter Pence staked the Giants to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, and that would be more than enough as the Royals managed nothing more than a solo home run catcher Salvador Perez in the seventh inning.

ESPN noted that the relatively long time off before this game might not have helped:
“Some will inevitably blame the Royals’ long layoff as one reason for the loss, but as Royals manager Ned Yost said after the game, ‘I don’t think the layoff had anything to do with tonight’s game. I think Madison Bumgarner had something to do with tonight’s game.’ “
