Reports: Several Injured In Shooting At Santa Monica College

Multiple news outlets are reporting that a gunman injured three people after opening fire this afternoon on the campus of Santa Monica College west of Los Angeles.

Quoting law enforcement, The Los Angeles Times reports a suspect has been taken into custody.

“Police sources told The Times the three victims were shot inside a car either on the campus or near the campus,” The Times reports.

CBS Los Angeles is streaming live coverage of the incident on its website. Their video showed a helicopter hovering above the campus and police officers setting up a perimeter.

Santa Monica College is a two-year community college with a student population of 34,000.

Update at 4 p.m. ET. Miles From President Obama:

At the time of the shooting, President Obama was about 3 miles from the college attending a fundraising event. The AP reports:

“Secret Service spokesman Max Milien said the agency was aware of the shooting and it’s not affecting the president’s event.”
